1. Job Description and Requirements
The Director of Music Ministry will be looked upon to help provide oversight for all aspects of the music ministry at Great Valley Presbyterian Church. He/she will establish and develop the vision for corporate worship along with the pastors and elders.
It is desirable that the Director of Music Ministry possess:
Experience leading traditional choirs as well as contemporary worship, including planning services, song leading and/or accompanying worship.
Experience with blending various musical styles of worship.
Ability to develop and coordinate musical ensembles.
Knowledge of vocal technique, instrumental skill and a workable knowledge of music theory.
Strong people and communication skills.
Good organizational, administrative and delegation skills.
A Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent experience.
2. Ministry Scope
The Director of Music Ministry is currently a part-time position. This ministry emphasizes, but is not limited to, our corporate worship services.
Expectations
Above all, the Director of Music Ministry must have an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus and a heart to worship the Triune God of Scripture!
He/she should not be focused on performance or self-gain, but on humbly carrying out his/her tasks as a service to God and His people. Along this line, he/she must demonstrate being a servant disciple, team player and working well with other church leaders.
He/she must fully agree with the church’s doctrinal statement. Great Valley is a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church which affirms the Westminster Confession. - We are Presbyterian in government, Reformed in theology and Evangelical in spirit. We recognize the absolute sovereignty of God and that the highest good is God's glory.
Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, the Director of Music Ministry will incorporate various forms of music (e.g., hymns, contemporary praise music, instrumental and choral), readings and Scripture into a blended worship service that glorifies God and encourages His people.
