Utility Locating Crew Chief

Work Schedule: 40 + hours per week. As needed by work requirements.

General Summary: Responsible for maintaining a qualified staff of 3-10 locators. Instilling a culture of accountability for safety, quality, productivity, overtime and 100% on-time performance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1.       Managing 3-10 field locators. (Depending on geographical area and customer mix.)

2.       40% of time is spent performing field locates.

3.       Load leveling.

4.       Meet or exceed Company damage ratio and productivity targets.

5.       Perform field inspections of field locators.

6.       Monitor overtime.

7.       Scheduling of time off.

8.       Assist with the recruiting, terminations, and maintaining of targeted staffing levels.

9.       Exercising quality control.

10.   Ensure 100% on-time performance.

11.   Providing timely employee performance evaluations and disciplinary actions when needed.

12.   Coordinating weekly safety meetings to comply with safety requirements.

13.   Perform routine vehicle inspections.

14.   Enforce Company policy and procedures.

15.   Communicating with staff at all levels. 

16.   Perform High Profile locates.

17.   Daily tracking of locators / checking in and out.

18.   Providing field support to locators, contractors and customers.

19.   Daily review of sketches on a daily basis.

20.   Employee development.

21.   Recording and turning in employees hours everyday (SITREP).

22.   Responsible for tracking company assets within your work group.

23.   Weekly vehicle and equipment inspections.

24.   Dailey review of Locators Activity Report.

25.   Account for all damages from the previous day/ copy/ code/ and process.

26.   Personally investigate all high profile damages.

27.   Assist with field locates as workload dictates.

1.       Extensive knowledge of various locating equipment, procedures and print reading.

2.       Knowledge of the State Dig Law.

3.       Ability to work with customers, contractors and staff.

4.       Conflict resolution

5.       Willing to work extended hours.

6.       Willing to work outside normal work area for extended periods of time.

7.       Ability to make and uphold decisions.

8.       Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

9.       Thorough knowledge of OSHA and company safety requirements.

10.   Must have neat appearance and enthusiastic attitude.

11.   Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.

12.   Ability to motivate and lead a crew to accomplish common goals.

13.   Review and respond to e-mails as necessary.

14.   Proficiency in computer usage and Company ticket management system.

15.   Clean DMV report.

16.   Ability to operate a motorized vehicle in a legal, safe and efficient manner.

Two years of sufficient locating experiences.

Experienced in computer applications.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Able to prioritize daily work activities with the demands of the company.

Able to travel.

 

High school diploma or GED.

Customer service and problem solving skills, as well as positive employee relations experience.

Able to work Monday through Sunday and overtime when required.

Daily schedule is determined by workload. 

On call for emergency locates.

Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
